    New Member - '58 Fuelie

Hi, I'm new and I recently purchased a '58 Fuelie #00800 from a family that has owned the car for over 60 years. Owner passed 6-7 years ago and the car has been sitting since. Fuel system is gunked and needs to be fixed. I called Jack Podell in Indiana and he can restore the FI system, but its a matter of disassembling and shipping up north.

I'm located in Raleigh, NC area. Is there anyone local that can help or recommend with a fuel system rebuild?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Matt, We are all pleased/happy that such a young man is very happy about purchasing the '58 fuel car. Let me tell you a recap of what I observed a few days ago as a vendor at Corvette Carlisle. Four or five people came to see my about buying a '58 fuel injection. I think three of them said they had original fuel cars missing the unit.
I was just looking at the nice photo you posted. I can see the gorgeous car has been sitting a long time.
Don't attempt to start it. You could have engine issues.
I hope you don't mind me telling you but the distributor is not installed correctly. It's about one tooth off. Easy way to figure this out is this Matt.
The distributor hold down clamps or hooks should be parallel to the fire wall. Jot that down.
I will help you all I can as long as you are not in a big rush. When you get the "Restorer" magazine turn to page two and see my name. FI contact person for the club. I just saw our team leader at Carlisle the other day. Tim Mickey will help you also. So will all the gang here.
Purchase the '58-'60 technical reference and judging guide. It is huge and has a wealth of info in it.
You have my email address. Thanks, John D.

Welcome to the 58 owners club (I sold mine, white on red, a couple years back but.......). Looks like you have a great car / foundation. Mine was in boxes when I got it........

I would heed the FI guru's advice here about starting the car.

Since I live in Illinois and Tim Mickey is nearby in Crown Point IN I had him build my 60 FI. I cannot say enough good things about Tim and his work, just an all around good guy and Corvette mechanic.

                          John,
This is valuable information and I appreciate the help! Pic's that I shared is how the car looked when I first saw it. Great shape overall, just needs a little TLC. I'm fortunate the original FI system (that I hope is original to the car) is still intact. I have pictures below.

I'm all ears for help and suggestions to get this Fuelie fired up. I do have a couple reference manuals from the previous owner (pics below), and I plan to read/reference the 'restorer' magazine. I'll send you a message of what I've encountered thus far and hopefully you can give me some pointers on the FI unit.

I really appreciate everyone's warm welcome and help/suggestions to get this car back on the road!

Also, can anyone confirm if this hubcap is period correct for a '58? I dont have the original rims, but 4 hub caps did come with the car in the extra parts bins. I'm conflicted because I seen two different style's referenced for '58 (others have an open slit year the outer edge). I feel like i see those more on 61-62's. One of the hubcaps in the parts bin had a sticker on it that said "'60", thinking it was a 1960 hubcap? Not sure if they were the exact same from 58-60. Any confirmation would be wonderful, thank you!
