Hello All,
I am looking for some guidance and opinions. I have the opportunity to purchase a 1959 Corvette 283 bare block for a very reasonable price. It has been in dry storage for many, many years. I do not know the engine code, casting number or cast date but will be confirming that tomorrow. I have a list of the 1959 Corvette engine codes (CQ, DG, CT, DJ, CR, DH, & CS). I will also confirm if the bore size is stock or if its been rebored.
I know that these blocks could be somewhat valuable, especially if its a FI block (CS). Currently, I am in the process of downsizing my auto parts collection and not sure if I should pursue this purchase. In your opinion, what is the current market value for these blocks? Are some codes more desirable than others? What are the chances of reuniting the block withthe original vehicle (if still around)? I don't want to be stuck with a boat anchor.
Thanks,
Rocco
