Thanks for all the background info on the filter. I see Corvette Central and Zip also carry the filter with the same "9" style. Zip is out of stock.
By the way the reason I'm changing the filter is that I took the top cover off of my carb to inspect the condition of the accelerator pump and found a bunch of sediment in the bottom of the bowls and decided it was time for a new filter. I also noticed filter rattles when you shake it. Like something is loose inside it. Is that another sign of a worn out filter? The new incorrect one I bought did not rattle.
What carrier do you use for your free shipping option? Don't want to wait too long for delivery.

Glad to provide the information. We are in short supply right now but expect to restock in the next week. We do have a small supply available to ship until then, and use USPS for free shipping. Received the new filter from Corvette Specialties today. Ordered it Saturday. Fast turn around. Got leaks thru the threads on the front and rear fittings on the filter. Got them tightened down as far as possible. What thread sealant is recommended here?- Top

the screw is sheet metal, oval head philips, not countersunk, chrome, about an inch long, and comes to a needle sharp point.
(is that a fillster head, rather than oval head? Could be). Sorry about the star washer JD

Thomas. I recommend Loctite 545 hydraulic sealant. I don't own any teflon tape.
Loctite 545 is not available in most auto stores. Industrial tool supplies like Travers or on ebay. It seems to have a long shelf life. I put it on with q-tip on a lot of the old fuel injection fittings. Let it set up and no leaks.
A cheater screw for the fuel filter bracket is readily available at hardware stores. Stainless steel. Buff it up and it looks like chrome.
The hardest part to find is the correct fuel filter adapter stud that has an indented circle.
Then use a flat SASE washer (not an outside star washer) and then the thin hex nut.
Another issue not mentioned is this. The Chrome fuel line from the 4657 pump to the filter is unique to 63 only. The ones available today are sold as '63-'65. Incorrect. I believe this line is the same as the '63 FI cars.
A correct repro is being made but I don't know if I am allowed to say who makes it.- Top

John DeGregory specifies a Loctite product for all the threaded fuel line fittings on FI units. The specific number escapes my old brain right now. However you could search the forum for a reference. I used it on my unit and can tell you there are no leaks, son used it on carb/filter fittings , no leaks. Hope this helps.

For the time being I installed found a #10 x 1 1/4" zinc coated screw from Home Depot. Not chrome plated. Not correct. You have to be careful not to over-tighten it and strip out the hole. The bracket material is quite thin.
Also re-installed my filter with the correct one from Corvette Specialties. I re-used the two 90 degree chrome fittings that attach to each end of the filter. The fittings are tapered so that they tighten down as you screw them in. I found that they will screw in all the way into the filter before they tighten down whereas they tightened down about half-way on the old filter. I don't know if the existing fittings are original or were replaced during a 1986 restoration. I didn't use thread sealer and the two connections leaked. I re-installed yesterday using Permatex Thread Sealer with PTFE yesterday and will start up and check for leaks today. I'm wondering though if new correct replacement fittings might be slightly larger and tighten down more correctly as they did on the old filter.- Top

My issue wasn't getting the threads to seal. I had issues with the double flared fittings.
If one had to guess, at this point in your job, I would say the end of the filter was tapped to deep.
You could try a piece of pipe and confirm how far they are tapped.
Or conceivably use a pipe tap threaded in by hand to see how far it goes in.
Do this on the intake side only so if any thing is dislodged it will be captured in the filter.
Seems may of the repro parts are "almost there." Typically the Chinese seem to use the consumer for quality control.
As the owner of a 340hp car I have found this thread interesting. It is getting into the details for sure. Thanks for the great pictures.
