    1969 driver side mirror

I have been looking for a mirror with the correct date for some time now. Finally found one in real nice condition dated 3 DMI 9 , close enough for my early august build. But when i got the mirror i noticed the date was on the bottom of the mirror , so it reads upside down. The mirror i have on the car ,10 DMI 4 is on top. Is this correct or is my car worth more now because they installed mirror upside down , ha ha

Yes i know that but the hole is not centered , if i flip it to read right the shorter portion is on top, the other has longer portion on top. Which way is correct?

I have been looking at cars for sale and they all have the taller portion of mirror up, as is the one on my car now. So if this is the correct way does anybody else have a mirror with date on bottom , upside down

I would suspect that the employees at DMI really didn't care if the date was up or down when installing the glass. If I look around I'm sure I could find someone who used to do that back in the day since the original mirror plant is about 2 miles WSW of where I sit right now.
I have seen originals upside-down, as you put it, so yours is not the only one.

If it bothers you , the glass can be removed and then glued back in place "right side up."

The original mirror on my October '68 car was upside down as well. The glass was not good so I had a Paragon reproduction with the same date and mounted upside down as the original. As Patrick said, the worker who glued the glass and Donnelly Manufacturing Inc. (DMI) couldn't have cared less about the orientation of the glass- good enough was good enough.

FWIW my original 72 mirror has the printing upside down as well.

At the time I bought mine from Paragon, they were putting any date code on it that you wanted. I just copied the one on the original (9DMI8). The printing was somewhat finer than the original but it was OK and judged at National OK also.

To alter it is to, in my opinion, adversely affect originality. I think it's way cool to have a component that doesn't follow the norm. Any company that begins with Donnelly is going to have issues:-))
Congrats in having a cool piece!
