Question On Parking Brake Stop Pin Removal For 1966 Corvette

Trying to get the aluminum "stop pin" out on my 1966 Parking Brake Rod Assembly. This is the pin that
presses against the light switch and it also locks the Parking Brake Rod from turning. Trying
to attach the front cable ball. Is there a trick to get this out? Don't want to apply too much force
that could cause it to bend or brake. I know it has spines on it. Should it be pulled straight out or should I
turn it while pulling it like if it had threads. (Like a screw). Comments Please and thanks>Larry

I am pretty sure it is the same as on a64. It is just pressed in - probably some rust that is holding it in. I would put some penetrating oil on it where the pin goes into the main shaft and let it sit overnight. You can hardly damage it - the pin is solid steel. The shaft of the pin that goes into the hole is about 3/8 to 1/2 inch long and it has spline like grooves in it that run length wise on the pin. I think it is also slightly tapered just a bit - and pressed into the hole. Get a pair of needle nose pliers around it and apply uniform upward pressure on the square part of the pin - should come right out - mine did.

Update for the above. Did research on another forum and came up with this picture, Did not know there was
a hole on the bottom of the assembly to get a "punch" in there if needed. Thanks>Larry

Correct Gary. The pin only needs to be removed to pull the shaft assembly out of the tubular housing.

Larry may have been misguided thinking the pin had to come out to insert the cable end.

Richard; You are correct; I also "naively assumed" that the pin had to come out. Thanks;Larry

In the end, we learned something, and hopefully things will now be easier to understand for the next person who searches the archives and finds this thread.
