Years used std steering column reverse interlock

I need an obscure part in my 69 std steering column to enable the reverse interlock function. I know the std column was used from 69 to 77 but I haven't been able to determine if the reverse interlock function was the same during those years.

I'm on the hunt for other columns that may have the part I need. What years did chevy use the interlock function for the 4 speed std steering column?

Also, if anyone has their's apart and could trace the part and provide thickness information, I could make a replacement? I would truly appreciate it!

The part is indicated below - it's referred to in the chassis service manual as "shift tube lock plate", #26 on the drawing.
    Thanks for your help!

    Rich,

The first year I've seen a GM car with the steering column/transmission interlock is 1969. The look and function of these columns look similar across the divisions, but as you note, there may be minor differences.

To find your obscure part, if I were you I would reach out to the services that rebuild these columns.

The shift tube lock plate was GM #7807691. However, it was discontinued without supersession in April, 1979. That's more than 43 years ago so I expect any NOS inventory has pretty much dried up by now. This is not even the kind of part that dealers would have carried in inventory so old dealer stock is not likely to turn up any.

The Corvette steering columns to which it applied were 1969-73 standard columns. I don't think it was used after 1973 even though those later columns did have the steering interlock.

The part was also used for 1969-70 standard columns is full size Chevrolets and Chevelles with floor shift. It may have been used later, too, but I cannot confirm that. It was also used for some 1969-70 and possibly later Pontiacs, probably those with the same body as full size Chevrolets and Chevelles.

I can't help with the screw as I do not have a specific part number for it.

We had to repair our steering wheel lock function (72 LT1), and found that part from a NCRS member that rebuilds steering columns (has OEM part he has salvaged from broken columns).

Fred, could you pass on the contact info of the fellow you got your part from?

          Thanks,

I sent the resource contact information. Is that plate missing or broken?

Yes! Sorry for the delay response. I had a busy day yesterday and couldn't get to the forum. The contact was quite helpful and in fact is mailing me the exact part on Monday. He just got back to me this morning and we spoke on the phone. Since I have never seen one before, the picture he sent me is all I have to go on. But it looks like a close match to the schematic in the service manual. Once I get and install it I will report back.

I feel like I won the lottery today!

                  Thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!
