    66 carpet weave question

Hi, does anyone sell the correct weave of carpet for a 66 with bright blue carpet , i know ACC is not correct and i thought Al Knoch gets their bulk carpet from them . any info would be great

    Re: 66 carpet weave question

Others will chime in, but I believe the answer is no for all the C2 model carpets. I believe the pile count and or height is the deviation. It seems like the bulk material all comes from the same source and is resold as private label. The rear compartment of my 63 is original and compared to some replacement pieces that were required for the front, there is a very visible difference. The original has a tighter and shorter pile. I also believe the binding on the original carpets used two different color threads.

There are many posts on this topic that go into greater detail.

      Re: 66 carpet weave question

      Bob,
Earlier this year I talked with someone who told me that for some years he judged Interior on C2s at the Regionals and National. He told me he could always detect repro carpets, regardless of supplier, based on the tightness of what he called the “cornroll” (others call it “corn rows”), i.e., the rows in the carpet, and that difference from original carpet configuration justifies a 20% deduction. He told me the difference in cornroll tightness is “pretty obvious”. I’ve heard the same comment from another C2 Interior judge who has judged at the Regional level.

It’s my understanding that neither ACC nor Al Knoch has C2 carpet that has the same row weave tightness as original C2 carpet.

        Re: 66 carpet weave question

Robert, If your carpets are so worn that the point deduct on condition (11) will exceed the originality (13) (expect 20% for replacement- some 2 points) Then go the replacement route.
NOBODY has any original C2 carpet, the new stuff is just better.

Remember to keep your heel pads & dimmer washer; take a picture of area around the accelerator lever where carpet overlays, and

I've looked for old shops that might have the early design left, found a blue roll but never a black. Even if I find some black then making a 64 carpet with it has other problems, binding, double stitching & color.

        Besides the new looks good!

I guess that's the point, there really isn't a row pattern in the weave on the repros. Image is from a Knoch pad for the jack area cover.

                  Re: 66 carpet weave question

The lack of any rows in the repro carpet makes me wonder if the repros have actually gotten worse over the years in terms of that feature. The national judge I talked to said there was a difference in row tightness, not that the repros had no rows.

Couple more images, both from Knoch. These are from the riser behind the seats. Same carpet, ones a close up.
