1977 power steering pump pulley removal

Can someone confirm that the stamped steel pulley can be removed from my 77 corvette can be removed with a "power steering pulley puller"? It seems to be diificult to remove and I don't want to break anything.
    Thank you.

Yes, it can be removed with a power steering pulley remover. However, 1975-82 Corvette power steering pumps utilize a different type shaft and pulley than the earlier 1963-74 style pumps and a different pulley remover is required. Also, unlike 1963-74 pumps which require no special tool to install the pulley, the 1975-82 pumps do require a special tool to install the pulley. This is because the 1963-74 pumps utilize a shaft with a tapered seat and a special lock nut for retention of the pulley. 1975-82 pumps rely on a somewhat heavy interference fit for retention of the pulley to the shaft with no nut of any kind for retention.

The 1975-82 pumps require a tool equivalent to Kent-Moore J-25034 for pulley removal and tool J-25033 for pulley installation. Many power steering pump pulley removal/installation tool kits contain functionally equivalent tools.

      Joe--
Thank you. I would recommend using AutoZone's free rental for this job. It did a good job of removing and installing the pulley on my pump.
