In the 6th edition 56/57 Tech Manual, it states on page 113 that the carb filter element is "brown porous cardboard type". Should not it be stated as " round porous reddish ceramic"? Thanks! Mark

Re: 56/57 Fuel Filter Element
I believe the intention of the judging manual is to present the vehicle as it came from the factory. I believe that the correct statement might be "round porous reddish ceramic". We are talking about the judging correctness and not aftermarket. Thanks! I am aware of the aftermarket filter.- Top

That would be an AC GF-124. That is dark red/brown. I believe the GF-130 filter is the same size but more reddish in color. A paper element is a later replacement.- Top

Re: 56/57 Fuel Filter Element
Dave:
I agree. The 56/57 Tech Manual specifies a carboard type; and it should be updated to a porous type. The manual should also be updated to reflect two starter solenoids, one of which came into production late in 1956. This solenoid was originally in the Tech Manual; and was later omitted.
Thanks!

There is also a GF-124K that is the same configuration as the GF-124 but has a very dark brown color to the element.- Top

Re: 56/57 Fuel Filter Element
I guess that I am less concerned with the color and more concerned that the carb element is a "cardboard type" as stated in the Tech Manual. I believe that it should be "round porous ceramic". Thanks for all the feedback!- Top

Re: 56/57 Fuel Filter Element
Thanks for clarifying that.
The correct answer is the GF 124 has the correct configuration and lighter brown color which should be correct. The GF 124 K is just a much darker version of the GF 124.- Top

Re: 56/57 Fuel Filter Element
Maybe we can stay focused on the carb filter. Can the carb fuel filter element description be corrected in the next edition of the 56/57 Tech Manual? Also, can the starter solenoid for late 56s be added to the next edition of the manual? Fi filters may want to start another thread.- Top
