    1963 340 HP Oil Pan

    Did the 1963 340 hp engine have the 6 quart oil pan that drains at the rear of the pan? If so, there would be no room for the steering dampener correct?

    No steering damper on the SHP motors on 63,there is no clearance, and the drain is at the rear.
    New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.

      What about power steering on a 340 hp '63? I think there would also be no clearance for that due to 6 qt pan.

        No power steering for big pan mechanical lifter engines because the power steering ram was in the same location as damper on manual steering cars.

        Actual big pan capacity is 5 quarts, but the system includes the filter, which holds about a quart. So the system is 6 quarts. Hydraulic lifter engines used a 4 quart pan plus one for the filter. Thus the system capacity is 5 quarts.

          James, Power strg. Can be added, it requires the power strg. Kit, and the smaller oil pan. I added this to my 63.
