    Fuel System - Initial Start

Recently I had my fuel pump rebuilt due to high pressure and therefore drained the fuel tank and lines. After replacing the fuel sending unit gasket and re-filling the tank how do I get fuel back into the entire system to start the engine up?

Start the car the normal way. The pump will suck the gas. As soon as it starts, shut it down and check for gas leaks everywhere.

Since the fuel pump inlet is lower than the bottom of the fuel tank, the fuel pump has no problem drawing fuel if the tank was emptied and then filled.

In fact, if that inlet hose to the fuel pump ruptures, the entire contents of the fuel tank will drain out.

I hope you replaced it along with the fuel pump.

The same happens if the tank to frame pipe hose ruptures, but since that hose isn't exposed to high heat, it lasts longer. Nevertheless, if it's of unknown age it might be a good idea to replace it and mark it with the replacement date.

Thanks Duke. I did replace both rubber fuel line sections (at the fuel pump and at the tank). The section at the pump had some cracks.
