56 fuel leak
20220710_114843.jpgWorking on 56 replaced fuel filter started and drove fine. Next day started 56 and fuel pouring out bottom of car. New fuel filter gasket in fuel bowl failed swollen to twice size. So gasket must not be ethanol safe. This was new wix filter very dangerous. Any suggestions on filter gasket.

Ed, Solid cork won't swell. Best to buy some sheet cork and make your own.
Might try to contact Wix and tell them they might get in trouble if they continue to supply those rubber/neoprene gaskets without warning the user it could cause firey explosions.

yes i will contact wix and I ordered some viton gasket material to make new seal. update: i called wix and they said they do not have a listing for a fuel filter for my application. So in their mind that filter does not belong on 56 vette.Last edited by Ed P.; July 11, 2022, 08:48 AM.Comment

Ok i have tested a gf-48 filter seal and that seal is also swelling but not as fast. Found a Balkamp seal 730-9510 and it tested fine with no reaction to the fuel. This seal is a little thicker. This is the seal i am going with for now. I only poster all of this as a warning. I was lucky i did not have a fire.Comment
