    Door jam

Has anybody ever removed and reinstalled a door jam. My left Jam has some damage on the piece that holds the latch plate and I think that I will have to remove the jam to replace some missing fiberglass and the metal reinforcements for the rear body mount.
I practiced taking the jam off on a section that I purchcased to use the fiberglass and body mount metal reinforcements for my missing parts.
    I had poor results.
    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Roger,
It would be helpful if you could post some pictures of what the damage looks like.

I assume you are working on a 58-60 correct?

If so, you can access the rear side of the door jamb from the fuel tank bay, with the gas tank removed. There's not a lot of room back there, but repairs can be accomplished. Again, we need to see the damage to give better advise.

The car is a 59. Attached are photos. I hope that they attached OK. I don't know how to tilt them 90 degrees. It has been awhile since I have done this before. You can see the damage behind the jam and the floor and missing metal brackets for the body mount. You can also see the crack in the front to the back of the jam. The last photo shows a part of an assembly that I purchased for parts that I need for the floor and body mount brackets. You can see a peice on the back of the jam that is missing on mine.
I am leaning toward removing my jam. On the assembly that I purchased for parts, it was not to difficult to remove the jam.

Your first photo shows evidence of a prior unsuccessful repair with fiberglass cloth. What does the outside of that panel striker area look like? If your car is otherwise painted, it would probably be less visible to properly repair your damage from the rear than to completely cut out that panel, but it's hard to tell from the orientation of your photos.

Are you going to attempt this repair yourself? All of that old cloth will need to be ground off and all the cracks properly V'd out for a good repair. You should use fiberglass MESH not cloth for that.

That was me who used the cloth years ago. I have a peice of floor along with the metal body mounts that i will graft in.
