The deck lid latch on my 1957 has developed a problem. The push button and rod are releasing past the bezel and into the passenger compartment. I have checked the spring and it seems to be working properly. Can someone post the page from the assembly manual for my car? I have checked with Corvette Central and they do not have a replacement for this latch. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 1957 Deck Lid Latch
Ron, from your description, if the spring returns the button too far when released I'd check the latch itself. There's a tab bent at 90* near the pivot of the latch that acts to stop the latch rotation when released. Check to see if the tab is bent out of position, worn, broken, etc., or if the pivot might be worn enough to allow the latch to clear the stop when released.- Top

Re: 1957 Deck Lid Latch
Thanks for your reply Rod. I believe that the problem is that the tab is out of position and allowing the latch to rotate too far. I am trying to figure out how to bend the tab to allow it to stop the rotation of the latch.- Top

Re: 1957 Deck Lid Latch
If you can't get to it through the opening under the deck lid with it open, you could remove the latch assy by removing the two clutch drive flat head screws located on the pass side of the seat separator near the top. They may be covered by the pass seat back rest. Removing the screws should allow you to remove the whole latch assy and work your magic on the bench. Good luck.- Top
