I need help. 1971 corvette LT-1-what alt pulley will work with what length belt, what power steering pulley and power steering belt would work.

    Re: Belts and pulleys

With the stock LT1 alt pulley I have a 155 25 on my alternator.
FWIW the belt quanta has listed is a little too long and will not tighten to a point at which the alt pulley is not slipping.

      Phil------

I'm assuming the car does not have C-60 and assume that you have the correct balancer and waterpump pulleys..

The original alternator pulley was GM #1970831 which was replaced by GM #3844100. Either pulley should work for you. The 3844100 is reproduced. The belt for this is 3/8" X 52-1/4" last available under GM #3932330.

The power steering pulley is GM #3834720. This is a single groove, cast iron pulley. It's the only pulley that I know of that will work. It's GM-discontinued but reproduced. The belt for use with this is 43-1/4", last available under GM #9433738.

          Phil------

Very often the "official" GM belt will be found to fit too tightly and make for installation difficulty. If it were me, I might try a slightly longer belt for each application. There is a range of adjustment for each belt so a slightly longer belt should not be a problem. Also, keep in mind that most original belts were 3/8" in width whereas most current day replacements are 7/16" width which also slightly affects required belt length.
