    Passive Key Entry Remote (Coupe)

Prepping a 1993 ZR1 for PV and changed my battery to increase range of transmitter. It is now worse and intermittent. I've changed the battery again and even back to the original. Anyone have expertise on cleaning the remotes? I had a spare screw type case remote, allegedly never used, but will not pair to the car after multiple attempts.

Looking for suggestions on improving my current remotes performance.

Any leads on buying a back up remote are appreciated as well. PM if you have a remote you'd be willing to part with.

    Thanks,

    John

Maybe a shot in the dark, but I seem to recall something about a difference between whether the new battery has a waffle pattern indent on the flat side or not on some of these older remotes. Can't recall whether you want the waffle or don't want it, but I would say to try to find one that matches the original. I never could understand how this could make a difference, but apparently it could.

The only other advice is to make sure that the 2 tabs (one contacting the flat side and one contacting the side) that contact the battery are making good contact and are clean. Sometimes they get bent and aren't making good contact.

Thanks for the reply Jack. The new battery was a waffle pattern and the old was not. I'll ride up to the store and see if I can find another brand and give it a try. Contacts were cleaned with rubbing alcohol. Thanks again for the reply.

The waffle pattern reduces the contact area of the battery to the remote. Good memory Jack.

Clean the contacts with contact cleaner. Any big box hardware store or electronics store should have contact cleaner. Be sure contacts are pressing firmly onto the battery.

Should you need one, the transmitter is still available from GM under GM #10282929 at a current GM list price of $205.54.

However, this is not the original part number. The original part number was GM #10098466. This was soon discontinued and replaced by GM #10248454. The latter was discontinued in April, 1997 and replaced by the GM #10282929. So, there might be some configurational difference between the original and the one currently available. Or, it could be that GM found that there were problems with the original transmitter and it's initial replacement and came up with a third design. That third design has been around now for 25 years. If it were me, that's the one I would want.

It's amazing this transmitter is available. Are pairing instructions available in the owners manual, service manual, or elsewhere?
              (I'm asking because I'm a soon-to-be owner of a '93 coupe and don't yet have the manuals.)

UPDATE: Any suggestions for a source for this part? The usual GM and Corvette parts sites I checked showed it as unavailable.

                Mark,

Local dealer says all these part numbers are now discontinued. I just do a search everyday and see if anything pops up. Instructions for pairing are in owners manual. Asked a couple of C4 owners at a show and shine over the weekend and they looked at me like I was from Mars. (93 & 95 cars) obviously not original owners and remotes long gone.

Does it have same range on each side of the car and rear? One of the antennas could be not working properly. Mirrock may have a remote, might be some on corvetteforum.com from time to time.

The receiver in the dash was my problem and bought several backup modules for my 95. My symptoms were programming issues, random malfunctioning locks and hatch release. The component is not hard to replace just takes time and patience.

Yes, I got some bad information on this. The last available transmitter, GM #10282929 is, in fact, discontinued without supersession. Too bad---it would have been so nice if it were still available.
