    C-8 Question

    Planning to take the new C-8 to Mobile on the NCRS Road Tour.

    Question 1 Who do you recommend for loan financing so I can get gas? (LOL)

    Question 2 What kind of REAL gas mileage do the C-8s get on the road? I barely have 500 miles and have no clue and I would like to budget somewhat for fuel costs to Mobile.

    The "Snake" and "Tail of the Dragon" Here we come !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: C-8 Question

    I have averaged over 30 MPG in mine on several trips. The last one to SoCal for a judging meet and the other to New Orleans for the regional meet. After 12,000 miles, my average MPG shown on the computer is 28.5. But I do nothing but highway driving in it, at the speed limit, so your mileage may vary.....

      Re: C-8 Question

      I got as high as 33mpg coming back from Palm Springs. Was a bit downhill. 28 is a good number unless you get into "Z" mode. That drops you to 24 to 26. But sure is fun.

            Have any of you checked the actual fuel mileage against the computer number? My C6 is consistently 2 to 3 MPG lower than the computer says, not that I really care. I enter all fuel and maintenance into a computer program that automatically calculates real fuel mileage on all original 96K miles.

              Hello;
              Driving the speed limit in a C8 is great fun.

                Are you kidding? After paying all that money for the newest technology to figure it for you? You want to return to a notebook and pencil in the glove box? Not me, I'll trust it.

                      I am not sure if your comment was addressed to me.

                      I have a computer program in my PC that reminds me of oil changes and maintenance inspections on a periodic basis. I can set the interval of those inspections as I wish. I enter the actual fuel consumed and the mileage shown on the odometer. This program is far more accurate and user friendly than the technology we pay for in the cars I own -- even the daily drivers.

                      I compared the fuel mileage indicated on the C6 as a matter of curiosity, and am convinced all that technology is flawed, perhaps even deliberately so. We are not getting what we have paid for. I have hopes the C8 will be better, but based on the results from the newer daily driver I do not have very high expectations. If accuracy is not a standard, I guess the results don't matter, but if accuracy doesn't matter why bother using the technology.

                        Yes, I was being a bit facetious of course, my father=in-law was an engineer that kept meticulous records of all quantities of oil use, gasoline, etc., and mileage in a note book he kept in the glove box of each of his cars. I guess when cars started offering these things on the driver info systems on the dash, I felt like this was great progress and never thought of double checking them. Maybe I should check it, but frankly if the MPG is off by 10-20% it really doesn't bother me. I guess I have become sloppy in my old age.....

                            And the actual mileage doesn't matter to me either. I watch it only because it can be an early indicator of something going wrong. The canary in the coal mine, so to speak. I suppose I could count on the trouble indicator in the information system, but I am still old school. And I just can't bring myself to trust those things.

                            I started with computers in 1960 (repairing them in the military) that were primitive by today's standards but state of the art at the time. Thank you Uncle Howie (Howard Hughes). Today at work I have four computers (Two remote) and six monitors. Thankfully if something goes wrong I call the unhelp desk and they remote into my machine and fix it -- sometimes. There is more computer power in my cell phone than that military computer that flew an airplane. I am still not used to the computer's FM. Mike, I am looking forward to another chat when we next get together.
