    1971 frame stencil

Am I correct in assuming that a frame stencil for an automatic transmission car will have a different number than for a 4-speed?
I found a car built the same day as my LS6, and documented everything about the beautiful stencil on that automatic-transmission car. Then it hit me--am I comparing apples and oranges? What would the difference be in frame stencil numbers, or would there be?
Attached is a picture of the automatic trans stencil.

    Re: 1971 frame stencil

    Mike,

Fifteen years ago Joe Lucia posted this: “The 1971 frame for 4 speed cars was GM #3987882 and for THM-400 cars it was GM #3987883.”

Is that original or reproduced...looks nice!

I'll add that 73 and up, do have separate assembly numbers along with lot numbers and the date code. Not a surprise. As you probably know, the 70-72 TIMJG 6th Ed does not provide those assembly numbers.

          Really?? It's original??
My understanding is that the paint/ink for the stencil characters was rolled on. That picture looks like it was sprayed. It might just be the quality of the image, however.
