68 ac compressor dragging at idle

68 vette small block ac system rebuilt charged with R12 and ran one time with rebuilt a6 compressor and blew seal. Installed new ac compressor no issues when charging had 46 degrees. Next day when hot, compressor works fine till idle and compressor tries to lock up and belt squeals. So every time I try to idle with ac on compressor drags and belt starts to slip. I put in 50 oz of R12.

Where did you buy the new A6 compressor??

A few years back, apparently some AC rebuilt A6 compressors (sold by Chevrolet) had a problem just as you described. We solved the problem by buying a new ALMA A6 compressor and installing it. No problem/issues since.

        Ed,
I think you need to check pressure with gages. May be over charged.

Takes 3 pounds and 4 oz R12 total. You put in over 4 pounds with 50 oz.

            Bill:

            3 lbs and 4 oz = 52 oz.

Right! 16 oz/lb. Don't know why I divided by 12. Brain poot. You're not overcharged.
