    Bruce,

Regardless of which regulator rebuilder you use, they typically have to replace the main gear. If you ever plan on going for a PV, make sure you ask the rebuilder if the new gear has end stops or not. Some rebuilders will give you the option of gears with end stops or not.

They are easy enough to do your self. The hard part is removing the door panel

Gary, Thanks, I am going for PV. Drivers side seems fine. How do I know if it has the stop you refer to?

I did a 67 coupe on both sides about eight years ago. not sure who made it as it was bought from the old Smart Parts at Carlisle. it was very straight forward and easy to do. you simply drill out the rivets that hold it together, then drill and tap the holes, clean out all the old grease, install new gears (I had to file some flashing from the new gears) then assembly with new grease. screw the housing back together and install

If the big gear has teeth all the way around, then there are no end stops.

Gary, I am looking at rebuild kits. Zip has it but stipulates the original style is only for the left side. I need it for the right side. It states the one for right side is machined? What are the differences? Will it pass PV? appreciate your help

                  Bruce,

It doesn’t matter if the gear is machined from a billet, or cast. If there are equally spaced teeth, 360 degrees around the gear hub, it will not have ends stops and will not operate as did the originals.

Some people say the vent window will stop rotating in the open direction once the rotated glass starts to bind with the weatherstripping, but that is a soft stop, not a hard stop. And I think the window will open too far before that binding occurs. So, a PV failure. My ‘66 has vent regulators without end stops, but I have no plans for a PV in my lifetime.
