69 tranny stamp date.

I have a numbers matching 69 which was assembled in Sept 69. My tranny is stamped in May 69. Is 4 months difference common? I heard from a part time NCRS judge that it should be within 4 weeks. He also said the date and serial numbers are printed on separate sides of the case. I'm pretty sure that's not true. All examples I've seen are on the same (passenger side).

On 68 and later cases the date code and vin derivative are on the same side.
