    69 427 LH Valve Cover J clip

    Hi everyone,

My LH valve cover has the spark plug wire clip on the lower side between #'s 3 and 5 plugs. It's described in the TJM but the TJM does not indicate which wire it's used to retain. Seems like it would have to be #5 but I'm not sure. Anyone know and/or have a picture of how the wire should be routed? The way I have my wires done now #5 is not long enough but it's possible I have it mixed up as I thought that clip was for the temperature sending unit wire before referring to the TJM.

    Tanks,

UPC-L36 Sheet A6 of the AIM contains the spark plug wiring diagram. On the driver's side, the wires for cylinders 1 & 3 are secured by the retainer on the top surface of the valve cover. To my knowledge, this is the only clip/retainer used to hold the spark plug wires.

      Hi Floyd,

Thanks for the input and help. I'm familiar with that AIM page and that's how I have my wires configured now. Going back and reviewing the TJM again, it mentions the clip came along with the second design valve covers but doesn't actually say the clip is for a plug wire so perhaps it's not. I can't find where it says what it's used for and there are 4 pictures showing it but not one of them have anything being retained by the clip. I originally had my temp sending wire routed through it as that seemed like a good use for it.

I should apologize for the noise. I just noticed that I'd asked this question twice before. I should've searched better before asking again.

Can you post a picture of that clip? Please

Here you go Gary. Second one is what I have been referring to from the Technical Info and Judging Guide - something I believe you are a "little" familiar with .

Thank you. I remember that manual well. Still chases me in my sleep..
That clip is spot welded to the cover, with a vinyl ? coating on the hook.
My 1968 April 1st built car does not have that hook. Let me look at some other cars... do some snooping.
I think that pictures was from a 69 with 6,000 miles. After Greenville, I'll sneak in and look at it again.
As I remember, it's unused on Corvettes. I think, it was used for the temperature sending unit on passenger cars maybe?

Thanks for checking Gary. That it may have been only used on passenger cars never occurred to me but that makes sense.

That's the one Chris. I see it's currently unused on your car. Do you know to the best of your knowledge if it ever retained anything?

Hi Jack, definitely not a plug wire and there’s nothing else in the vicinity. Closest thing is the temp sender wire and that about 6 inches away.
