Throw out bearing pilot bushing on 67 SB

I was on a trip and after 500 miles of an 1800 mile trip I noticed a squeak every time I shifted gears. It only happened occasionally for a while then more regularly. I decided it was the throw out bearing so decided to drive the 500 miles back home to get the BB. On the way home "500 miles" it only made noise twice. I have the trans. slid back and the throw out bearing removed. The bearing spins fine with no roughness or hang ups. I have been told that pilot bearings don't make noise like that. I replaced clutch assembly including pilot and throw out 8,000 miles ago. Any one have any ideas?

What type of pilot bushing did you use? Was it the original oil-lite bronze or a needle bearing type?

Quite frankly don't remember, has been too long ago. Think it was bushing. I would have replaced it, with what was in their orig. Because I slid trans back on long studs can't see pilot bearing.

Upon further examination it is a bushing.

          Mike,

You might find this thread interesting about the different pilot bushings. Not all are the authentic, non-magnetic, Oil-lite type. I recommend the National brand.

Check for wear on the tips of the clutch fork arm that the release bearing fits in. Wear in this area will allow contact against the spinning part of the release bearing when the pedal is depressed. Also, make sure bearing is positioned properly within the arm. Make sure the front bearing retainer on the trans where the release bearing rides is not worn. Chip.

Sounds like a dry bell crank, clutch linkage or pedal pivot bushing.
