Re: 56-62 with hardtop only
Mike,
The '57 hardtop only car I once owned, did not have the softtop protector glued to the gas tank cover.

Re: 56-62 with hardtop only
I have owned two hardtop only Corvettes, a 57 and a 62. Both fairly original and both had the protector material glue to the gas tank cover.- Top

Re: 56-62 with hardtop only
Gary & Mike,
I have a related question. I am pulling out the fuel tank on my `57 to clean it before putting any fresh fuel in. In any case when I pulled up the soft top protecter material to get access to the screws holding the tank cover on I discovered two holes cut through the fiberglass. They are very neatly done and provide access to the top nuts on the rear shocks. Seems like they ought to have some kind of rubber plug in them, but none are present. IS this something a prior owner did to make replacing shocks easier or is it factory? If factory, should those holes have some kind of plug in them?
Thank you,
Mike- Top

Mike,
Those are factory holes. Material similar to tar paper covered those holes IIRC.

Re: 56-62 with hardtop only
Thank you Gary,
That seems like a very inelegant solution. I assume the tar paper was glued down to actually seal those holes?
