    NCRS Paint Guide lines

My 1967 coupe still wears its original Acrylic Lacquer paint (Rally Red) still looks good from 20 feet, but has various kinds of spots and cracking. So I have decided to have it painted early next year which gives me time to get all of the proper NCRS guide lines and recommendations for the professional painter who does the job.

I made note of everything in the 7th edition Technical manual, but there must be specific guide lines that I can give the painter.

    Thanks for the help

        Hi Terry,

First of all, I would love to see a photo of this original paint job (warts and all )

You may have already identified this, but if it's a Big Block, keep in mind there is now a 40% originality standard deduct for NTFP placement and/or widths of the 1967 painted BB Hood Stripes.
        thx,
        Mark

Before you do anything, familiarize yourself with NCRS paint judging rules. If you don't have a copy already, obtain a copy of "Body Color and Paint Flow Guidelines" (judging card) available from NCRS' store.

This card will give you some guidance on choice of material and application technique. Deviations from "Factory" paint application are identified with consequent percentage deductions.

You may choose to have a better than factory paint job and just suffer tolerable (to you) points loss.

As stated previously, contact with Tom Ames will be very helpful.

did you set a plan to have the bumpers re-chromed, all the bright worked polished, new taillights, and emblems? re-do the interior, and under the hood? shiny new paint will make everything else look bad. I would vote not to repaint unless you want another restored car

I understand your concern for a better looking car. However, as an exterior judge for C2 I would much prefer to see an original paint car with flaws versus a repaint because to matter what you do it will not look the same. Just my 2 cents worth. i would love to have an original paint car.

I agree with Keith and Jimmy, but it's your car to do with as you please....

Count another in the leave the original paint column.
If it is chipped fill the chips with red lacquer then lightly level with a razor blade, finish with hand polish in just the spot.
