Todd, If the judges are familiar with 63's you will not have an issue with a frame stencil on the Drivers side towards the front of the frame. As long as it is an early car.

If you have some photo examples of that positioning I would suggest having those with you at the time of judging.

Thank you Joe. And if the judges are not familiar with that anomaly, I could get a deduction? Would pictures like the one attached be sufficient? Hard to get a clear location when the car this came from has never been apart.

Todd, how do you prove that picture came from your car?

The numbers are judged in the chassis section. The frame and numbers are worth 15 points. Say you split it 10 for frame and 5 for numbers. You are looking at the Installation part of CDCIF. So 20% of 5 is a one point deduction. Condition is fine so no deduction.

          Harry,

That picture came from a car that has never been restored, and it is 96 vin #'s later than mine. That's a good point on the deduction total, I want to get the best judging score possible on this car, but ultimately I want to restore it exactly as it was when it came off the assembly line. I'm trying to find facts and not opinions on all the details that are not clear in the JM, which is difficult. I am thankful for you guys on this forum that help link on these pieces to the puzzle together!

#2725 was stenciled on the inside frame rail and if memory is right, passenger side by firewall. Car was judged in 98 and 99 in Idaho but judges made no notation of deduction. NCRS has come a long way in 23 years.

For full credit don't use the spray paint, that may come with the stencil, directly on the stencil.
Spray a roller with it and then apply the paint to the stencil with the roller.

Yes, that is my plan, to spray it into a roller pan, then use the roller to soak it up and apply it to the stencil. Thank you for the advice.

Todd, Don't waste your time spraying into the roller pan. Get a small 3" roller and spray directly onto the roller. Eliminate the need to clean up your roller pan!

For what it's worth, before I started restoration, stencil was on the driver's side. I've owned the car since 1970.

                      Thanks,
                      Fred

Thanks for the feedback Fred. Was it under the door opening or on the bend in the frame forward of the firewall? What month was your car built?

                          Thanks,

I used 30 small magnets (Harbor Freight) stratgically located on stencil to eliminate overspray and accomplished job perfectly. To be judged in Aug and will be subjected to there expertize. Bruce

I am sure some of you have seen the photo of all the '63 frames sitting outside in the snow at St. Louis assembly line.
The frames were sitting not far from the RR tracks. So then St. Louis had to repaint those frames that were bought from a sub contractor
They were painted a gloss black according to Robert Jorjorian.
Makes one wonder if they ever had the "stencil" used on the shiny frames.??

Just adding a photo of an original 1963 assembly line frame/chassis... it appears the exhaust system has not yet been completed.
Unfortunately, I did not save any reference info... so I can't credit the image, nor can I establish an approximate date.
