    67 clutch flutter

I installed a new clutch , throw out bearing ,and machine flywheel, last year and it works great .. the only issue is some clutch flutter when releasing the clutch on take off
Not sure if this is normal and will eventually get smoother or something I live with ???

    Enzo,

It might just get smoother with some wear. But--you might check your motor mounts for any looseness.

      Re: 67 clutch flutter

Ill assume you assembled it last year and have been driving it?
Did it sit over the winter? If yes oil could be contaminating the assembly from a leak? Inspect the clutch & bell housing for evidence of oil splatter. If its slight it could wear in after a few miles. Do fix the oil leak source.

Another possibility is the machine work (surfacing) was performed incorrectly or the shop did not use the correct surface grinding machine.
Flywheels should always be ground with a stone, never cut on a mill or lathe.

          Enzo,

How long between installation and started driving? I had assembled a new clutch disc and pressure plate on my body-off project and then it sat for over a year. When I started driving it, I had bad shutter on release. It got better over time, but it took a while.

Suspect it was the clutch plate material that had made an impression (material transfer) onto the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces over time.

I drove the car the same day ... maybe 10 miles on new clutch

Are you sure it's the clutch? double check the differential tung . make sure the bolt that goes through the bushing on the cross member is tight.

also could be you have the clutch rod too far out. does the cutch disengage near the floor or much further up?

                Enzo,

I've had a few clutches in my 67 and I remember always taking the car back for a clutch adjustment after putting some mileage on it.

Maybe try getting a little wear and mileage on the clutch, and then take it back for adjustment. Maybe try some uphill speed starts and burn some rubber. Then adjust.

                  Hi Dan

After a little adjustment and driving a while it seems to be much better.. I guess its the break in procedure
                  Thank You
