Re: Reproduction Rubber Quality
Tom,
I am very suprised you haven't mentioned the door and pilar seals.
They are horrible - and - no way made from the materials that were on the GM prints.
To diagnose, each as to be looked at separately, there have been a TON of junk ball joints sold over the years, some with off specs made in the USA that the supplier suggested 'put a washer under the nut to get fitment'....so unsafe. You would have to ID part numbers and suppliers to then dig into the details.
Weatherstrips are made from epdm hard rubber versus latex foam or latex coated foam. No rubber supplier 15 years ago wanted to invest in the molds to make good pillar strips. I personally was going to, but as I saw no one really wanted to pay what it took to get a proper spec'd big block by pass hose...I backed off - the tooling back then was 35k.- Top

Re: Reproduction Rubber Quality
The first problem is using the words Reproduction and Quality in the same sentence. That does not exist! Notice in the catalogs when the words Made in the USA is used the price is higher BUT quality goes up!

Re: Reproduction Rubber Quality
Agree, have used Dr for years on lots of parts - no issues ever.
That's what I meant by irony - we've complained and in turn, lost a quality vendor.

Re: Reproduction Rubber Quality
Good riddance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check out Corvette Rubber Company for all your weatherstrip needs. Many restorations with their parts and they still look new years later.
I've never heard of ball joint or tie rod boot failures like that after only one year and presumably on a garaged car regardless of the manufacturer.- Top

Re: Reproduction Rubber Quality
Yes, car is kept in climate controlled garage and driven about 900 miles. Certainly not enough to wear out any new rubber one would think. Just thought it was odd. I’ll pick up replacement boots from NAPA and install and move on. All my weatherstripping came from Corvette Rubber Co and that is holding up nicely.Good riddance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Harry,
Thanks my friend. I have a 67 435/427 that I did a frame off. My passion is my 63 coupe with the 327.
