I have a 427 A/C car so the AIR pump bracket uses the upper water pump bolt. This bracket must also be attached to the air pump before the pump pulley is in place.
Anyone see an issue with installing the water pump without the bracket and then coming back later and removing that upper bolt when I want to install the AIR system? I wouldn't think it'd be an issue but thought I get some advice as I have had too many re-dos already on this overall job. I want to leave the AIR off until after I've confirmed I have no coolant leaks since I'm R+R'ing radiator, hoses, intake, etc
Also, what's the recommended gasket sealant to use on the water pump and thermo housing gaskets? I usually use Permatex #2 but I see they also make a "water pump & thermo housing" silicon based "gasket maker".
And finally. I got a rebuilt original water pump and the mounting surfaces are painted, perhaps powder coated. Don't see any adherence issue with the paint but wondering if I should remove it and go with bare metal?
TIA,
Jack
