    I believe that new and different pistons are necessary. However, I'd recommend replacing the pistons anyway. If there is any wear on the piston sealing ridge (at the maximum diameter of the piston), the piston needs to be replaced. There will almost always be such wear. You can discern this by any wearing through of the yellowish-green hard anodize.

      I completely forgot about normal wear and tear on the piston so your point about replacing it to be on the safe side, is spot on and that's what I will do.
