Re: Brake Caliper Rebuild Question
I want to rebuild and convert all 4 brake calipers on my 68 from lip seal to “O” rings. My calipers have stainless steel sleeve inserts.
Question: Can I use my existing caliper pistons or do I need to buy new pistons specially made for the “O” ring ?
I see kits that contain just the rubber components (“O” rings, outer seals etc) and some that also include new pistons but I don’t know if I need the pistons.
Thank you,
Kurt

I believe that new and different pistons are necessary. However, I'd recommend replacing the pistons anyway. If there is any wear on the piston sealing ridge (at the maximum diameter of the piston), the piston needs to be replaced. There will almost always be such wear. You can discern this by any wearing through of the yellowish-green hard anodize. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Brake Caliper Rebuild Question
Thank you Joe
I completely forgot about normal wear and tear on the piston so your point about replacing it to be on the safe side, is spot on and that's what I will do.
I appreciate your input as always
