1969 350 tach drive distributor needs rebuilding

Has anyone in the Portland Oregon area used or know of a quality machine shop that rebuilds old tach drive distributors?

    Thanks.

      Bob,

The Rebuilding of the old tachs has probably gone out of style with many of the machine shops. These tachs are of a unique enough nature that it pays to have a specialist in this area do this for you. You should be getting copies of Driveline with your membership and you can find someone in there who specailizes in doing this. That's definitley where I would advise you to start.

I would recommend Dave Fiedler. He restored the distributor on my 70 LS5. He is in the Driveline, and his website can be found at:

As long as the bushings are okay it's easy for a DIYer to rebuild it. The procedure is in your COM, but don't forget to install the gear with the dimple pointing to the rotor tip. The service literature doesn't mention this.

Get a shim kit and shim up the end ply to 2-7 thou, and it's also a good opportunity to optiimize the spark advance map per my tuning seminar.

Thanks for everyone's input. I called Dave and after talking with him for ~30 minutes decided to send mine to him for rebuilding. Hard to beat 40+ years of experience and expertise!
