Hello All
I apologize in advance if this has been addressed in the past, but I just spent the past hour or so reviewing the archives and could not get a definitive answer to my issue.
I have an early 69 that had a standard column, due to my present girth (I haven't actually sat in this car for 40 years) I need a tilt. I purchased a "supposedly NCRS correct" column about ten years ago and am just now trying to install it. The issue is that the measurement of the new column firewall flange to end of shaft on the new column is roughly 1 1/4 longer than the original. This would seemingly prevent me from getting it in and seated against the firewall correctly. I know about shaft crush and sheer pin issues, but I would expect the shaft to be shorter not longer if that was the issue. Also, I know for fact that my original standard column was never damaged since I am the second owner of this car and have had it since 1978 and it has never been in any accident. Second issue is that my original column wiring connector affixed to the column is smaller and has far fewer connections than the one on the new column. Is this because it is just wrong plain and simple, and if so can I replace the wiring through the column along with connector to correct this.
I have been working on this project on and off for 40 years and am at the final few items and have tried really hard to be correct with everything and don't want to blow it now that I am so close. I paid good money for the TT column but will start over again with the right one if need be. Please Help an old guy who started this restoration 40 years and 60 pounds ago.
Best Regards
Kenny
