    Correct Fuel Pump for a 1971 LS5

I am looking for a correct fuel pump for a friends 1970 LS5, type 40770.
    Its a January build 70.
We are in Perth Western Australia so they are very hard to find here.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

Have you beat the bushes on the internet for Corvette parts companies that advertise such pumps, like this one.

Or have you contacted Fred Ballard, who restores crimped pumps?

The original pump was incorrect with no AC and is not worth repairing.
Is this what the original should look like but with an return pipe.

Your first picture is from the TIM&JG. When the7th Edition is released, that picture will be corrected. It's not a 70 fuel pump. The flat at the bolt boss did not appear until late 72 or early 73. Late 69 and 70 had a rounded boss with no flat.

Your next picture show's a rib along that boss. I think that started sometime early 73 model year.

This is what the bolt boss should look like. The casting should be smooth, not rough sand blasted. It will have an AC logo like your pictures.

An original 40770 pump is real hard to find. Kind of like looking for chicken lips. No, chickens don't have lips....

Included are some pictures of an original 40770 pump from an April 1971 LS6 (same pump as LS5), and the pump is dated 19 January, 1971.

Here is what an NOS pump from 1993 looks like.

Hope these pics help. Please note that not only did the AC logo setting change, the fittings on the bottom changed, and the location of where on the flange the part number and date were stamped also changed. (original on bottom flange, the other two on the top flange)

                Gents,
Most impressed with the depth of knowledge in the Forum and thanks very much for your knowledgeable input. Most appreciated!
Looks like we will have to search the net for one which will be like finding Rocking Horse manure! Possibly rarer than chickens teeth.
                Thanks,
                Gary
