AC Delco PF-25 Embossed Oil Filter

Anyone know where you can purchase an AC Delco PF-25 Embossed oil filter that doesn't cost $500. I also saw one for $999. I will need one for judging next year. I told the Mrs about the cost and she gave me a look "like you had better not".

The TIM/JG specifically states that the 1970 cars through about April or May have the embossing on the bottom reading BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE REPLACE WITH AC. My car is a March 1970 car. So, do I lose the points of the Mrs?

As far as I know, the embossed version of the PF-25 is not reproduced. So, the only source would be NOS originals. More than 50 years after that particular version of the filter was manufactured the available supply must be exceedingly minimal. So, I expect the prices you have found reflect that reality.

      Keith,

You need to think in, as Terry McManmon says, points-per-dollar.

NOS unembossed examples are much cheaper, and the current reproductions are very cheap (relative to NOS).
8 points for originality, so it's >$100/point to move from a reproduction to the embossed filter, or nearly that from an NOS one.
Scrape the white paint off the upper lip of the reproduction oil filter and it looks more like an original than it used to.
You may lose 2-4 points originality vs 6 for a current ACDelco filter, but those points gained were cheap compared to the embossed filter.

I was judging an L-88 in 2020 and the car had on a reproduction oil filter. I asked the owner why, and he said he wasn't going to trust his expensive, rare engine to a 50 year old oil filter! I told him to at least remove the dot matrix printing from the bottom of the filter.

Yes, it would be foolish to use an NOS filter on the road. They should be installed for judging ONLY, assuming one is so-inclined to use one at all.

No one drives an L-88 on the road, but the owner wanted zero chance of failure!

I tried swapping oil filters at a meet once. That was a real mess.

You might want to check the newly released Standard Deduction sheet that was passed out in Florida this year. It's the 9th edition February 2022 Rev. 7.0. Item 13 makes all of this trying to find a needle in a hay stack a moot point. See attached.....

Seems like that's the way it has always been. There are plenty of folk that apply the 'points v. dollar' rule to everything on the car. I have no problem with that way of thinking. There are others that want their car(s) to be correct...period. I have no problem with that, either.

I've always enjoyed the needle in a haystack hunt.

I pulled a fiberglass mold from the bottom of an original -Now I can fill it with white silicone or casting putty and then apply the "embossed bottom" to a brand new filter.

I'd like to see a photo of the "finished product". It's hard to believe that this would end up appearing like an original filter. It seems to me that it would appear like a modern filter with a "grafted on" bottom.

If you did it with a different material and were able to replicate the color printing - sans the dot matrix print of course.
Gee - I'm glad I saved mine, $999 for a real one now?
