    Fuel Pump Code

Now that I have my fuel pump off and preparing to have it rebuilt I have a code question. The TIM/JG manual states for a 1970 LT-1 the model number is 40709 which mine is. My question is about the two letter code for month/year. The TIM/JG manual has a picture of one that reads LH40709 which is the exact same as mine. What does the LH mean?

The code L for year is 72, while I suspect the H code is the month August

      Re: Fuel Pump Code

If David Luikkonen is correct, then LH on crimped fuel pumps represents Dec 1968. See his posting on fuel pump date codes:

This is correct, the LH (1968) dated pumps were used until the early calendar year 1971 dated pumps were phased in mid way through the 1971 model year. IIRC most 1971 LT1's through march/april or so had the LH dated pumps.

          James,
I agree with you all the way. My mid-February car still has LH. I can't find my notes on the 21653 car I used to own, but I know that was no longer LH. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall, when the LH pumps ran out, rest of the 40709 pumps were Julian dated.

As i recall the latest 70/72 JG speaks to this. My 71 LT-1 VIN #16798 (May build) had it's original fuel pump in it. It was stamped 8K40709. It is thought that the 8K is the 8th day of January (K) 1971. That backs up the theory that these #40709 pumps began being dated in January 1971 and the LH stamp went away at that time.

My BHGreen LT1 #21783 July 18 also has an 8k40709 pump,
I haven't removed the pump on #11130 March 2 as of yet.
