    Clean Air Hose Carburetor

I have a C2 1963 327. I have just connected my clean air hose that is connected to the exhaust manifold and runs down and under in a hole in the manifold. My question is how deep should that hole be? Is it an all through hole? What is the purpose of this hose? If I put my finger on the other side of the hose and run the car should I feel hot air coming through?
I've just purchased this car last year and I am trying put the original carburetor back on that has been rebuilt. I have some mechanical experience but I am by no means a mechanic.
    Thank you

    Don,
Mine is MIA also. Planning on replacing it also. Here's a pic from Zip Products site. Also a pic of the hole in the bottom of the exhaust manifold. My impression is that the hole in the manifold is actually a closed port that runs through the manifold. The idea of the system is to supply clean air from inside the carb air filter down thru the manifold and into to the choke housing. Without the clean air tube the carb is sucking dirty air thru the open hole in the bottom of the manifold and into the choke housing.

Mine is missing as well. That appears tobe the area to the rear of #4 spark plug. Can you fish the new pipe up from the bottom to install, or what do you need to disassemble?

You should be able to get it installed from the bottom. You may need to remove the spark plug shielding. Be sure that any of the remaining heat tube has been removed from the exhaust manifold before trying to install the new one. A drill bit that is slightly smaller in diameter of the new heat tube will work to remove any pieces of the heat tube that may stil be in the manifold.

Just found it in the AIM. The L-76 diagram appears it comes from the back nearer the starter.

I noted that Zip's part is not pre-bent at the lower end but Paragon's is and is cheaper than Zip's. This is based on the pics on their websites.

Should route very similar if not the same as the L-75 and L-79.

The tube has a bracket which may be bolted to one of the three bolts which show in the pic in my earlier post from my L-76. James, can you get a pic from underside? Thanks

Okay, here is what I have. Non-a/c car, battery heat shield & starter shield in the way. Also, a picture of the tube I have. Doesn't look very easy to me.

Anyone have a picture on one on an engine stand? Appears L76 is different than L75 in drawings.

Lots of bends in that tube in the AIM diagram. Doesn't look like Paragons's would work on the L76.

On L75 all pictures I have researched show the vacuum tube orientation as shown here. Bruce

I've seen L76's installed the same way as Bruce's. Maybe because only part is available. I haven't seen one available that would fit the way the AIM shows for the L76.
