Interpreting a 1956 Bill of Materials

In THIS thread we were discussing the 1956 RPO 449 Hi Lift Camshaft and Gary posted a copy of the BOM for the option. I've added some notes to it based on my interpretations. I think I got most of it right, but if I didn't let me know and I'll make changes for future reference.

    See BOM image below...

It took a while to decipher what I could but now have a few ?'s.

1- What does the "PARTS PURCHASED" and "PARTS NOT PURCHASED" refer to?
Maybe New parts not stocked requiring Purchase, versus parts In Stock?

2- In the upper header, there is a column marked "DRIVE". What does this refer to and what does the "L" in the column mean? (yellow boxed)

3- In lines 13 & 15, to the far right of the "PART NAME" line, what does the "N" mean? (yellow boxed)

    Thanks,
    Rich
PS you might need to download for better clarity.

Rich, That page came out of The 1956 Corvette Production Parts Ledger which I acquired years ago (early 1980s). There is a story behind it. It was in my possession for many years. I sent John Amgwert numerous pages from it June 1986 when he was researching the same '56 cam information for the Restorer and Spec. Guide etc.. Since I was also involved with putting together the first 56-57 Judging Manual it was an excellent research source (I guess Kibbe can not mention everybody). Dick Robinson and others wrote numerous articles using it along with blueprints, inter-correspondence etc. I had also accumulated. Credits were given to a number of individuals I shared info with but for some reason my name has never been mentioned. Do you think it is time to come out of the closet?? Still have more info and photos I believe never released.

David, Interesting they didn't use your data. After all, it was official Chevrolet information. Yes please keep us all up to date with your information.

So I think I learned new info about the Parts Ledger.(BOM)....

The DRIVE, as I understand it, is LEFT(L) or RIGHT(R) hand drive. All Corvettes built were Left hand drive, but I recall some Passenger cars or Trucks were built Right Hand Drive, so the Parts Lists identified those. But not for Corvette.

Still trying to understand the "N"'s related to the Engines in the Parts Name Columns.
