67 Alternator pulley paint? Deep Groove 3829387

I just came across a deep groove pulley that has black paint on all areas except the front face. The recessed area on the front is also painted black. Did Delco paint these the same as the fan in some cases? It came off a 67 car. Thoughts? Thanks, KurtIMG_4422.jpgIMG_4423.jpg

    Kurt,
What is the part number on the alternator fan?

      Kurt------

The only Delco pulleys I've ever seen painted were those that were part of an integrated pulley/fan assembly. In these cases, the pulley was always a stamped steel type pulley. I've never seen a machined steel pulley that was part of an integrated pulley/fan assembly.

To your point, Joe, the pulley on my late (June '67) L79 with C60 and N40 has a one piece integrated pulley/fan assembly #3909817... picture below.

My set up L79 w/N40. AlternatorIMG_4421.jpg 1100696 with 3843346 fan. I recently found this pulley for my application and was interested in the paint it had on it. I noticed the back side was also painted and had rub marks that match the 3843346 fan I have. The seller told me if came off a 67 Vette 435HP. based on the marks on the back, it was run with the correct 3843346 fan. Before I stripped the paint, I thought I'd ask the question, did Delco ever paint the pulleys to match the black fans?

Not in this case. Leif's pulley is an integral assembly of pulley and fan and is part number GM #3909817. This is the correct assembly for his application.

The 3909817 is a 1967 released part and superceded GM #3875968 which was also an integral pulley/fan.

I have seen these assemblies finished in either black paint or black phosphate.
