NOS GM Parts Boxes - When did GM use This later box type?

How old were these boxes? The boxes have "dot matrix" printing on the end tabs, and bar code labels on the sides. The door handles inside look like they might be from Trim Parts. ...much nicer than "traditional NOS" stuff. One other difference is... these parts came with buttons installed...

Yet, GM 5719142 & 5719143 are the same numbers on older & thicker (real cardboard) NOS part boxes. In those boxes, the older NOS parts came without the buttons.

I got these from a guy with a stalled (and sold) 1966 restoration project. He does not know how long ago they were purchased, but they were bought from a GM dealer. I can add photos of the bar code labels if that will help.

    Tom,

Have you checked with Don Griffin on this? He may be able to shed some light on your question.

      Tom:

I believe the dates are shown on the boxes: 75J8 and 75F?. I would say 1975........probably October and June.

      Larry

EDIT: Barcoding began to be commercially used around late 1960's to mid 1970's.

Having sold paperboard for many years to the companies who printed folding cartons for industrial as well as consumer products... the manufacturers list the printing information on the carton tabs.
The cartons below are from another project.

The above box dated 8/84 is the aqua and black color scheme, the one 10/89 is the medium blue with white back ground.

Ink jet printing, which the original poster's cartons exhibit came into industrial scale use in the late 80's - it was a pretty new tech when I was studying packaging science in the early 1990's as there were still issues being ironed out.

For someone with the knowledge, it would make a great article for the Restorer to document with photos and date ranges the history of GM packaging starting with the 1950s.

A photo of my same box (before I ripped the ends off). I do not think this is as old as 1975, based on the timing of dot-matrix printing.

Those boxes appear as the last style before they were discontinued. I could guess that was very early 2000s .
They were sold as the bare handle only. No buttons, springs, etc.
