    1970 Wiper Motor Number

I have been conversing with a well known wiper motor restorer, and we have been discussing whether or not a 5044712 wiper motor was ever installed at the factory on any 1970 Corvettes. I know the AIM and judging guide calls for a 5044758 wiper motor, and I am aware of several cars where the owners are relatively certain their car originally came with their current 5044758 wiper motor.

If anyone knows of a 5044712 wiper motor originally installed on a 1970 Corvette, I would be interested in knowing.

    Thanks,
    Allen

    Hi Allen,

The label on my mid July 1970 is quite worn from chafing on the hoses/harness, but I know that it is an orig item. Here is a pic if that helps:

    I can discern "9437" and a partial "73 / 5A" from the label.

      Bill,

I am not knowledgeable enough to know what you have from your partial numbers. The partial numbers do not correspond to what I would expect to see. Maybe someone else will respond. New labels can be obtained from Corvette Central.

      Thanks,
      Allen

New labels can be obtained from most vendors, but have a VERY limited date choice and will have the expected part number.

I was just looking on the Paragon website, and they let you pick the date you want, but you will get the expected part number.

They let you pick your date out of the 3 or 4 available. Their website/ordering form is misleading.

I ordered a label from Paragon and received the bottom label in the picture below. It is too large and has a date after my car was built. They are supposed to send me a replacement with a correct date, but I have not received it yet.

I ordered the second label from ECS Automotive Concepts. I ordered it just as it is shown including the space between the 2 and A as you see in originals. The 335 9 2 A is the same as the label on Terry McManmon's car which was built just a few days before mine. I did not order the 7 to be oversized and spaced over slightly, but that is the way they make them, and as you can see it looks very close to the same as the top label which is an original label I had. My original has a different color, but I think that is just due to 50 years of oil and grease on the original label.

I have a very early production '69 and none of the usual suspects could provide a label with an appropriate date so I resorted to printing my own. I think they all get them from the same supplier. As Patrick has pointed out, they print them en masse and only have a few dates to choose from. If you have a very early production car, you're probably out of luck.

I was able to find foil labels close to the correct dimensions and compatible with a laser printer (on Amazon I think). Since I do a lot of document work, I have collected a very rich set of fonts for MS Word. It took hours of searching and experimentation but I eventually found a font that matched the original on the GM labels - or close enough anyways. I ended up with a lifetime supply of labels and I would offer to print one for you but I'm in the process of relocating, and all my office supplies are buried in a storage unit.

The font I used was "Kozuka Gothic Pro M" with the size set to 9 points.

                  Floyd,
I also have an early production '69 (October '68) and would like to take you up on your offer to send a label when you have the time. I have emailed you with my address.
Thanks for offering to do this for us!
                  Jeff
