Re: 1971 LT-1 Fuel Line Support Bracket original?
Thank you for spotting that the water pump is wrong. Is that a part that I could replace to NCRS standards easily or would it be hard to find?
I looked through your album. Nice car, and pretty correct. Your camera seems to have a gas tank fixation.. Water pump is incorrect, and balancer bolt and washers being orange stand out, but otherwise it is either an original LT-1 or a clone done by someone very knowledgeable. Would love to know dates on carb, starter, etc. Alternator looks right! Again, nice car!Check out the NCRS Points Tabulator/Calculator Helper

The waterpump you need is a casting number 3991399. This is one of the rarest Corvette waterpumps because it was only used for about 1-1/2 years and only on Corvettes and some MD trucks. But, they can be found. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1971 LT-1 Fuel Line Support Bracket original?
Interesting, yes I see them available on eBay rebuilt in the 300-400 range, so they seem to be somewhat at a premium. I'll likely buy one at some point just to have it for future.
That bracket is annoying me now that I know its non-original - maybe someday I will find a real one I can install.

Hi Mike,
You have me out in the garage again
Starter looks to be 1D20 (See image) Screenshot 2022-02-22 182137.jpg
I will get a shot of the carb, my guess is that something was done there, seeing as the bracket was replaced.

Michael, great car. I enjoyed the responces to this thread. We have a numbers matching 72 LT1 convertible AC car that we did a body off restoration and appreciate the great details in your photos file (very helpful). We are having our LT1 flight judged at the NCRS Centeral California Chapter event this June, are you planing to attend?

Re: 1971 LT-1 Fuel Line Support Bracket original?
Michael,
A couple of things. First, they all had the “Stamp Rite” logo on them. Second, there is no finish because the bracket’s finish is natural. Third, this was not an item that you could’ve went to Chevrolet and bought one over the counter. It was never available as they only came on cars on the assembly line.

I'm home now and I checked. It turns out that these brackets lived longer in SERVICE than I remembered. The LT-1 bracket, GM #3959444, was discontinued without supersession in October, 1980. The LS-6 bracket, GM #3994043, was discontinued without supersession in July, 1977.
I still think that this was probably when the initial manufacturing runs ran out. After all, these are not exactly wear parts so few would have been needed prior to the time they were discontinued. Thus, the original SERVICE inventory would have lasted as long as it did. And, by the time that clones were being created, the original SERVICE inventory had dried up.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1971 LT-1 Fuel Line Support Bracket original?
I was able to get in touch with the original owner (quite the search as he had no digital presence at all). They switched to an LT-1 after their Big Block order had issues in production. He had pictures of the car in June 71 with the LT-1 stripes after it’s first wash, and he remembered specifically that he had originally ordered a big block. From my call with him
‘I originally ordered a big block, some aluminum head engine or some special aluminum performance engine’ (would this have been an LS6??) ‘There was some issue with production, so I switched to the small block high performance’.
he sold it in 1976 with 20-25’000 miles on it.
I wonder if that part had to be removed to do certain kinds of maintenance, and was often discarded? It seems to be the case in this instance as it was definitely born an LT-1

The only 1971 big block with aluminum heads was the LS-6 and it was originally installed only in 1971 Corvettes.
The LS-6 did exist in 1970 but was installed only in Chevelles. That version of the LS-6 was equipped with cast iron heads, though, and not aluminum. This version of the LS-6 was also available in SERVICE for many years. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1971 LT-1 Fuel Line Support Bracket original?
I guess that means he bailed out on a very rare order he had made. I wonder what the issues would have been in 1971 with those orders. He wasn’t specific about why he switched to LT-1, but just said that he kind of had to because of whatever the hold up was.

Hey Fred, I might very well attend if the timing is right. I am having my own Flight Judged this April in Suisun city. Best of luck with your judging! Do you have some photos?

Re: 1971 LT-1 Fuel Line Support Bracket original?
Good morning Michael, we are actually members of the SoCal NCRS chapter however we entered too late for their spring event so the hense we entered the Centeral California's Chapter Fight Judging opporunting. It looked like your LT1 was very original, and your detailed photos were helpful in specfic detailing for our LT1. Our Lt1 had been very negected for years prior to us getting it, a previous owner had repainted it yellow, replaced the orginal carburator and removed the AIR system but fortunatly saved all the OEM components. We recently completed a body off restoration and while 99 % of our LT1 components a OEM and Julian dated correct we needed to research specific assembly details and your photos were helpful. We feel confident in achieving a Top Flight award however recognize that we will have deducts for non OEM bais tires, battery, exhaust and the repaint standard dectuction for over restored. I'm interested in keeping in touch hickeyconstruction@gmail.com

Absolutely beautiful car Fred, I love the color. Please let me know if you need anything else or specific pictures of any area. I also added a date code inventory in my signature of codes I found.
I lived in Los Angeles for 6 years, moved to NorCal 3 years ago. Did a lot of work on an old 85 Trans Am there in a garage in Santa Monica, good times, still haven't finished it!

Intesting, I was born and raised in Santa Monica (1947) and grew up as part of the SoCal "American Graffiti" generation. I'm a commericial general contractor and built several commerical projects in northern California in the 80's (HQ for Atari in San Jose and a multi story office building San Rafel). We have probalbly too many 60's muscle cars, 1st general K5 Blazers and classic hot rods & vintage trucks, just completing a 68 GTO convertible.
