    Bob,

The ‘66 JG is a bit vague about blackout on the fiberglass in the rear. In Section “14. Underbody and Fuel Tank” the JG says: “The majority of underbody fiberglass is natural unpainted, except for the front edge of the lower floor pan and areas in the rear where blackout might be sloppily applied.” I assume the “front edge of the lower floor pan” is at the base of the firewall in the engine compartment, where engine blackout might get down that far, although my St. Louis ‘66 had no engine blackout that far down. The phrase “areas in the rear” is not at all clear to me exactly what location they are talking about. Also, the phrase “blackout might be sloppily applied” means what? That there might or might not be blackout there? Or that there will be black there that might or might not be sloppily applied? That leaves a fair bit of wiggle room for interpretation IMO.

PS You’re not talking about blackout in the rear wheel well area, are you? There definitely should be be some there.

      Also look at https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...fler-Black-Out
it's still available on next page, notice the blackout of mufflers could easily hit some of the spare tire tub.
As for the jack area, that maybe a function of the wheel well blackout/undercoating.

as for sloppy - would guess the production works just pointed and sprayed, if it hit something not perfectly - "well you can not see from my house."

Bob- This is the best I can do for a 1966 GM assembly line photo of what you are questioning (dated 9-28-65).
Due to file size limitations... I'll show the original photo, and then the enlargement of the open wheel well area.
Unfortunately, I do not know the body build origins... or if there was a significant difference in this area:

Given the blackout paint appears to cover the entire inboard portion of the wheel well in the close-up photo Jack posted, one can imagine anything slightly inboard of the inboard wheel well panel would also have been hit with some blackout paint.
