    66 headlight motor

Just checked the extra headlight motor for my 66. I ground the motor and put power to each terminal separately. When I put power to the one terminal, the motor operates correctly. When I put power to the other one, it moves intermitly. Any idea what is wrong that I can fix. All of the gearing on the inside has been cleaned or replaced and lubed.
    Thanks

    Re: 66 headlight motor

You say, when you put current to one terminal "it moves intermittently" --- what is "it"? Can you hear the "motor" running (spinning) inside the housing continuously and smoothly and the output shaft is what is moving intermittently.... or...... is the motor actually running intermittently? If you can hear the motor running smooth and steady but the output is not equally constant and smooth you have gear damage inside the motor.

The motor has a new gear. It will turn a couple of revolutions and then stop (hear the motor turning). Other times is does not move at all (the motor is not running). If I turn the round piece at the end of the motor, the motor (sometime) will start running again.

Sounds like an electrical problem - most likely inside the motor but, to verify that, connect the white plastic power supply lead (clip) from the good motor to the one that is giving you a problem - if the problem persists it is inside the motor - if not it is in the lead to the motor (doubtful - but possible). It address the problem in the motor you will have to remove it and disassemble - Alan Drake asked about the brushes - could be brushes or springs. This is not a complicated / difficult repair job - if you haven't done it before go to the Sticky posts at the top of the Tech Forum and scroll down to "Data Base of Restoration Documents" - then scroll down to C2 Headlights - you will find 5 great tech articles on headlight systems and motor repairs - read them all - then go to work. Good luck.

Could also be the round bronze bushing the armature shaft rides in.

Or whoever did a rebuild on the motor got totally carried away with the grease / lube for the gears and now there is grease partially covering one of the brushes or the armature.

I will check the motor as per the responses that you guys gave me.
                Thanks to all
