FWIW> Mershon's now down to (4) C2's for sale; the lowest number that I ever recall. Hemmings "Corvettes for sale section"(C1-C2-C3) very low in number. Inflation is taking its mark now. LarryLarry

Larry, Mershon's may not want to pay the inflated prices and then get stuck with them. Hemmings is outdated since the internet became the place to sell a car. Bring A Trailer, Craigslist, Facebook, and others have killed Hemmings.- Top

I've been curious about BaT, it seems like there have been some really eye-popping sales, but I also hear they may manipulate your reserve price too and are a pain to deal with when setting up your sale.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Finding a older Corvette to buy is getting harder by the day!
They do try to manipulate your reserve, especially if they really don’t comprehend the subtleties of the car’s value. They are in the commission business, so a car that has too high a reserve may not sell, and they’re out the fees, so they’ll push you on the reserve. I didn’t list a car with them, for just that reason.
Speaking of BaT, the ‘65 fuelie that sold today may have been the best deal I’ve seen on there. A real fuelie, but the engine stamp was not real, and it probably needed some body restoration, but $72K for a real Blue/white ‘65 fuelie coupe is a steal.Mike

I did not find them difficult to deal with on selling the 92 a few months back. They suggested a lower reserve, but I stuck to my guns and they acquiesced.
Their ad writers are severely limited as to what they can say about a car. Sellers would do well to watch BaT for a while to understand the nuances of the auctions rather than going in blind. The more involved you are, the better. You can say things as a seller that BaT can't put in print, and I made sure to do so.
The 92 will be at the FL Regional next week witih its new owner.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Finding a older Corvette to buy is getting harder by the day!
No matter when the period of time, or what the medium, the best cars always have most often been found through the power of friendships and personal networking. Networking is not a new term. We have been using it for decades in many different ways. To find a good car (Corvette) I encourage you to join a club or better yet a few clubs. Attend meets, join a Chapter, and most importantly make friends. Don't get discouraged if the process takes longer than you expect, and if you miss out on a good deal or two (I have many times).
There is no better place that I know of to become the next "caretaker" of a really good Corvette than the NCRS. Of course, there are other ways to find a good Corvette, but the exchange between two NCRS members in the ownership of a Corvette may be the best experience in buying or selling you have ever had. I have been on both ends of some really great deals, and the money is only just a part of it!

I still get Hemmings But I am sure most of their subscribers are my age 60 +. it would be a great idea for them to up the font so we can read without a magnifying glass and 500 watts of light. I know increasing font size will also cost more to print the magazine but it could also lead to a higher circulation.- Top

Joseph: Thanks for the response. Since finding them is so hard I do believe "NOBODY IS GETTING STUCK" with them.
They are being sold as quick as they come in. JHMO - LarryLarry

I've had a non Corvette accepted for sale on BAT, so we will see how it goes. I set the reserve and they didn't balk at all, it was accepted in two hours. It's a unique car and I'm sure they wanted it on their site. So far, all has gone smooth.- Top

Re: Finding a older Corvette to buy is getting harder by the day!
The resto-mod craze is eating into the supply of nice original cars as well. I sold a really nice 64 coupe a couple of years ago. Every receipt since new with all original docs. The car spent most of its life in CA and AZ so no rust. The guy came to pick it up in high end enclosed trailer. When I offered him the 6 inch stack of documents, he didn't want anything except the title - said the drivetrain would be out of it in a week as they were building a resto-mod.- Top
