    63 console gear pattern plate

Can anyone advise as to which of these plates is original and correct for late December '62 gear pattern plate for a 63 Console? I believe both of these consoles to be original, but is it possible that one of the gear plates has been replaced, or was this switched sometime througout the year in production?

    Thanks,
    Todd

If they are embossed and have tangs holding them to the console (backside view), then they could both be original. The one on the left appears to be embossed...hard to tell about the on on the right.

They are both embossed with tangs on the back side. The difference is the one on the left is brushed and bright, the one on the right is a dull finish.

Todd, the condition of them gives me an indication that they both have been replaced. Not saying they are reproductions, just replaced. Take a look on eBay at NOS shifter plates for a comparison.

The one on Ebay looks to be a brushed finish, like the left side version. The judging manual also says "brushed finish" but I'm not sure how to interpret that

I took this out of my 63 in 1998. Notice the blue M on the back?

That's perfect Harry. I took mine apart and the brushed version has the M on the back just like yours, so this appears to be the original one from the car I have.

Todd, Nice... It could be a W but it doesn't make a difference. Hopefully no 63 owners are pulling their consoles off to look.

So here are a few examples; The original is from a 64, it's solid
The NOS is the 63 style, with the 4 tabs on the back (looks like your right one is a NOS flavor) AND no "W" on back.

Thanks Alan, that definitely helps confirm what is original.

they may be NOS the are NOT original factory installed.

In post #11 the picture labels tell what they are, ie an original 64, a NOS (purchased in late 60's), & a Paragon repop.
