    57 SS Corvette @ Kissimmee ??

Does anyone know why the 57 SS Corvette GM show car did not cross the block at the Mecum auction in Kissimmee last month ?

I was wondering the same thing. After all the work done on it and its' time spent in our area, we were looking forward to seeing it sell. Guess it was pulled at the last minute for some mysterious reason.

With the way Mecum jumped around with valuable cars and then affordable car I just figured I missed it. But after looking at sales I saw it never hit the block. you would think that Mecum would have at least told us it was pulled and maybe even why?

These auction houses are very secretive about things. Some arrange for certain bidders not to be shown on TV, and of course the buyer is never identified by name, nor is the seller in most instances, unless big collections are being sold.

If you try to look it up on the Mecum site all it says is SORRY

Yes, I am sure Mecum will not divulge the reason it was pulled from the auction. I guess we are left to speculating if it was the seller having second thoughts, or was a private deal made outside of the auction ? I guess we will find out sooner or later when it resurfaces at a show or in a collection. I truly believe this car should be in a GM museum somewhere. It is a piece of Corvette history with a fantastic provenance. Thank you to the current owner that restored this car to it's original 57 autorama glory.

From a well known/respected NCRS member:

"There was a controversy on this car and it was pulled from the auction. My understanding is it had to do with ownership rights, not the car itself."

Uh oh, another long drawn out law suit may happen.

Thanks for the input Daniel. It's hard to believe that there is an ownership issue , when the current owner has owned it for the last 25 yrs and there is such a documented ownership history as detailed in the 2018 volume 44 #4 spring issue of The Restorer .

Thanks for your comments Michael, just wondered if you had any thoughts about the ownership issue ? I believe you have done some extensive research on this car according to the article in the Restorer. Thanks, best regards, Jim

The only thing I did was to contact some long time members of our chapter to get the story on the car when it was owned by a local used car dealer, and his son drag raced it and wrecked it on the street here. We also tried to find out what happened to the original fuel unit, but could not locate it.
