I will be installing a new under car exhaust system and will need to reinstall the center crossmember hanger. What is the best way to approach this? Should it be installed before or after the pipes are in but before everything is adjusted? When the two bolts are removed at the transmission tail section bracket, will there enough room to finesse it in there and will I have to jack up the tail section/ drive shaft to get it in there? Seems like it would be easier to do this first. Thanks.

Re: Installing exhaust hanger at center crossmember- how to and what to expect
Surprised nobody helping yet, so here is some information to star with;
Check the standard "Exhaust System" which uses 3853723, in section 8.
Then see the items listed for the auto trans M35 option.
You should find that the same 3852723 is being used. So I would assume that, that bracket is being used for
64-67 production cars. (warning - I recall an auto car used a spacer in that location when equipped with side exhaust)
I do not have any photo's of that area for an auto trans.- Top

Re: Installing exhaust hanger at center crossmember- how to and what to expect
Alan, thanks for the reply. Yes, I was surprised that the good guys in the white hats hadn't ridden in yet. Maybe later.
I believe I know what exhaust hanger to use (same for auto and manual 2") but I am wondering if I am going to have to find a way to jack up the transmission tail section in order to slip this hanger into place. Is there anything under there that needs to be supported while I do this? I am hoping someone has done this and they will share their experience with me.Garry Barnes #18531

Re: Installing exhaust hanger at center crossmember- how to and what to expect
That hanger, 3852723, is sandwiched in the rear trans mount, so yes I would support the rear of trans.
Also think the 2" and 2 1/2" use the same hanger. Note; you should find a spacer there already if the conversion to
outside exhaust was done correctly or if original.- Top

Alan, there is actually a 2" hanger as well as a 2 1/2" hanger. The diameter of the lip that the clamp goes over is specific to 2" as it is on the 2 1/2". Thanks for your thoughts.Garry Barnes #18531
