1957 Crankshaft Pulley 245 HP

Questions for a 1957, 245 hp, deep groove crankshaft pulley and balancer assembly. My crankshaft pulley was damaged; however, the balancer looks to be okay. I am searching for a replacement pulley, or a replacement pulley/balancer riveted assembly.

1. Where can I obtain a crankshaft pulley and balancer assembly all riveted together? I have tried all the usual corvette parts suppliers already.
2. Any recommendations on who can rivet a new pulley on my old balancer?
3. Does anyone sell the crankshaft pulley alone? (Without the balancer)
4. Does anyone sell the rivet kit?
5. What is the part number for this pulley? This is a 245 hp engine, not the FI.
6. What other crankshaft pulley and balancer assembly (either riveted or bolted) can I use that is readily available so that I can drive this corvette while I am chasing down the above parts?

All I can tell you is that the pulley as a separate part was never available from GM.

Slight chance, but I lost my inventory book and I had a FI pulley. I will check. Again, I know it's a 57, and I have a 57 passenger convert to restore, but may do something else. I have all the 57 parts for convert, but may put one of my SB's in it. Have 265/283's.

Joe, this is not true. In the late '70s, I bought multiple NOS 991 pulleys from my local Chebby dealer.

1957 Corvette with 245 HP engine used balancer/pulley assembly GM #3712763. This was an assembly which included a riveted-on pulley. I have no information that indicates that the riveted on-pulley was the GM #3742991 pulley. In fact, the pulley which was part of the 3712763 assembly was not even configured like the 3742991. As I mentioned, I have no information that the pulley that was part of the 3712763 assembly was ever available separately in SERVICE. Of course, it could very well be that the 3742991 pulley would work with the balancer that was part of the assembly.

still not with my research data but isn't the 991 pulley the deep groove pulley used only on the solid lifter 57 engines? mike

It was the same deep groove pulley. It just happened to be riveted on instead of being bolted on. I'm sure of it.

Yes it was used on the solid lifter engines but also on some hydraulic lifter engines, too.

Case in point, all optional passenger car V8s above the 1x4 bbl engine got deep groove pulleys (crank, WP, generator). It stands to reason that Corvette engines were similarly assembled.

It was the same deep groove pulley. It just happened to be riveted on instead of being bolted on. I'm sure of it.

My recollection of the pulley that was part of the balancer/pulley assembly was that it was of a "semi-conical, dished" configuration.

The current JM shows the bolt-on pulley (991) for the 283 HP motor. All 1956 and base 1957 motors used a 3/8 riveted balancer. These are similar to passenger car balancers and easy to find. The other 1957 motors 245, 250, 270) used a 1/2 riveted balancer. They are available from the balancer rebuilders and you can expect to pay more for these.

Thank you for your replies, they have been helpful.
The 991 pulley is different from the pulley on a 245 HP. The bolt/rivet circle is 3.375 vs 2.875 and the inner dim is 1.185 vs. 1.75. The outside dim and belt circle look to be the same.
There are balancer rebuilders that say they can rebuild my pulley/balancer assembly but no one has come thur. I have an order in with Chicago Corvette since early Oct. they used to say in two weeks, now they would not even give a date.
I have heard from other sources that a pulley/balancer from regular 57 Chevy will work. Does anyone recommend a supplier and part number?
