    1967 Alternator 55 AMP vs 37 AMP

    Hello,

If I use a 55 amp alternator in my 67 small block non-a/c versus the 37 amp it came with, will I create any problems? Or, should I buy a new 40 amp and just change the internals and put those in the 37 amp, correct casing?

    Thanks
    Jerry

The current sourced by the alternator won't be any greater than the sum of the loads placed on it. So if you aren't adding any additional electrical accessories and if the only change you are making is the alternator, no you aren't creating any problems.

I think all you need to do to increase a 37 amp rating to 55 is swap in the 55 amp stator. The only thing I'm not sure about is if the wire on the output stud is sufficient to support the full load.

No problem, at all, will be created. In fact, if you were to install a 61 amp alternator no problem would be created.

              Jerry,

              Take a look here:

              https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...ght=alternator

I restored my original 67 alternator with the innards of a replacement 61 amp.

I had to do it when I went to a Vintage Air system on my non AC 67.
              It still works great.
