    C2 ignition switch

Question about my early 63 340 HP ignition switch. Was the original switch lighted? My newly arrived switch has a bracket for a bulb? If the switch was lighted what was the bulb type and what did the electrical attachment look like? If there was a lighted switch I need to look for the electrical attachment behind the dash.
In addition I ordered a ignition switch nut which was sent as a brushed chrome. Wasn't the original chrome?
Lastly, I would like to replace my existing key assembly. Appreciate any source for same.

    All help appreciated.

    Richard,
The original 63 switch was part #635. Occasionally you see them on ebay for sale. I am guessing you got a switch from one of the Corvette part vendors which is not exactly the same as the original 635. The switch does have a light which goes on with the dash lighting. I believe it uses the same bulb as the dash lights and is the same gray wire. You must have a gray wire hanging behind your dash cluster. The light in these switches is very difficult to see unless you are in a dark area. The bezel for the switch is bright chrome with only one pin hole in it, some of the replacement bezels have 2 holes.

Look into a 1116650 switch, that should also work. 650 NOS switches are much cheaper than a 635 NOS switch.

My May 63 had a lighted ignition switch and cigarette lighter, but NO lighted heater controls...

All C-2 had lighted ignition switches but the 63-64 was again unique as the bulb was held by the Instrument bezel as the picture below will show along with the other switches that had a provision made into the switch.

Thanks Bob for the part number on the original switch.
You are correct I have a replacement switch. The replacement switch came with bracket for a bulb but no socket. I guess if I find the bulb I can come up with a socket (hoping). I will take a look and see if I see the wire. Was there a capacitor on the original switch? If yes do you know where and how it attached?
              Thanks

Harry is the 1116650 switch the same as the 650 or 635? Would they include the bracket and or socket for the bulb?

                  Thanks

Thanks Frank for the info. I now see I need a lighted switch.

                      Re: C2 ignition switch

Wow, Ray my replacement switch looks nothing like your photo. Many thanks that looks like it solves the question as to a socket for the bulb. The replacement switch I purchased has a rear mounting bracket and nut that attaches to the back of the switch with no socket. But not sure if I find one such switch it would be in any condition to use after all the years that have gone by. Do you happen to know what the bulb type was. Interesting years back I replaced the original unit but did not keep it as a reminder as to what it looked like. I am also looking for a new key switch assembly do you have any suggestions?
                      Thanks
                      Rich

                            Rich,

If you have an original 63 or 64 Instrument Bezel you will have to use a 1116635 (635) or 1116650 (650) switch. The later Ignition switches will not fit in your Instrument Bezel.
